PROVIDE AN EDUCATION THAT CULTIVATES WISDOM, JOYFUL LEARNING, AND LOVE FOR GOD AND OTHERS

Have you ever seen the delight in a child’s eyes when he realizes that C-A-T means “cat”? At Oak Hill, we want our students to experience that same delight—over and over—as they learn to see that everything in the world God has given us has meaning, and that its richest and most complete meaning is a Person: the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the “integrating principle” for understanding all of life.

That’s why the Bible’s answer to “Why give your child an education?” shouldn’t surprise us. Moses tells the Israelites that loving God “with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” is the goal of all their stories, standards, and ceremonies—in fact, of their whole lives—and they should teach their children with that goal in mind (Deut. 6:4). The apostle Paul has the same goal in mind when he tells fathers to raise their children “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). This kind of education isn’t merely informational; it is formational, shaping students according to the virtuous standard of the Lord.

Oak Hill began in 2006 to help parents provide their children this kind of education, an education designed to cultivate love for God and others, as well as the other Christian virtues. Because that educational goal isn’t new, neither is our approach. Oak Hill’s curriculum and teaching directs a child’s attention to greats—the best that human beings have been able to produce—in history and literature, in art, in science, in mathematics. By this we want our students to learn to remember, recognize, and represent the Truth, Goodness, and Beauty of Jesus Christ.

For this reason, Oak Hill Classical School practices classical Christian education.
